Understanding India’s New Tax Regime (2024-25)
India has introduced a revised New Tax Regime to simplify calculations and provide lower rates for most taxpayers.
Key Features:
- Standard Deduction: A flat ₹75,000 deduction is available for salaried individuals.
- Tax Slabs: No tax is payable on income up to ₹3,00,000.
- Rebate: Under Section 87A, individuals with income up to ₹7,00,000 are eligible for a full tax rebate.
Current Tax Slabs (Budget 2024):
- ₹0 to ₹3,00,000: Nil
- ₹3,00,001 to ₹7,00,000: 5%
- ₹7,00,001 to ₹10,00,000: 10%
- ₹10,00,001 to ₹12,00,000: 15%
- ₹12,00,001 to ₹15,00,000: 20%
- Above ₹15,00,000: 30%
Additional Charges:
- Health and Education Cess: An additional 4% is applied to the calculated income tax.
